Huckleberries… or Worry?
Written by: Jean-Pierre Gregoire
Greetings my Tender Neophytes.
As you bask in the musky heat emanating from my moldy sandals I Bless and shower thee with pearly, misty droplets of sublime wisdom.
This world is a training ground for Soul; a classroom designed to temper us for more meaningful experiences. Strive to greet every problem with glee, for the greater the challenge the greater the opportunity for growth. And most importantly, don’t worry. Learn to relax and let go. Letting go allows Love to Flow.
The word “worry” derives it’s meaning from Middle English “worien”, from Old English “wyrgan”; akin to Old High German “wurgen” to strangle, and Lithuanian “verzti” to constrict.
Here is a story which may enlighten you and lessen your burden as you journey through this classroom of hard knocks, commonly referred to as planet Earth.
A man once set out on journey through a mountainous region and not being familiar with the route, he soon became lost. Darkness quickly fell upon him and he began to worry. From this worry fear was born and it overcame him. He stumbled and fell over a precipice and began to tumble into the black night. He screamed as he slid and clawed frantically hoping to grasp anything that might save him from an impending doom. Suddenly his hand grabbed the trunk of a short and stout juniper bush. He swung precariously, dangling over a edge, terrified and fearing the worst. Could he maintain his grip, would he fall to his death? With tenacity and fierce resolve he hung on. For hours he held on, gripped by terror, refusing to let go. So strong was his will, grit, and focus that he transmuted to a higher state of consciousness. He found himself out of his physical body and he hovered in his light body, watching and willing his physical self to hold on at all costs. After hours of sheer determination he began to weaken and once again, worry and fear began to overcome him. The first light of dawn appeared and his worrisome state took hold once again and he was immediately transported back into his physical shell. As he looked up to the now barely visible peak high above from whence he had fallen, exhaustion finally overcame him. As he released his grip on the juniper bush he screamed out “God, why has thou forsaken me?” Then he fell – a mere 6 inches, and gently plopped into a glorious patch of big, juicy, ripe huckleberries.
As he lay there stunned, bewildered, and stained with the dark, pungent sweetness of the delicious fruit he began to relax in dawn’s early light. And in this state of peace he suddenly realized how fruitless it was to worry.
Worry had prevented him from enjoying the bountiful Heavenly Gifts, which can only be received when one is relaxed and not strangling oneself.
Worrying cuts off the flow of Loving Spirit, the Light and Sound of God, so necessary in maintaining our Spiritual Health. We require nothing else.
I once met a woman who said to me “Don’t you tell me worrying doesn’t work because I worry all the time and nothing ever happens to me.” And she was right; nothing ever happens to her - and I do mean nothing.
Until the next time I bid thee farewell my Precious Ones.
Don’t Worry, Be Happy.
May the Spirit be with You in All Ways.
