Author of RelationshipsRelationships.
By definition, the word means: a connection, association, or involvement. If you live your life by the dictionary, then perhaps that definition would suffice. In my own personal experience, relationships provide a rich and deeply binding connectedness between people which cannot be easily conveyed in a word, or even a series of words. They are so much more meaningful than that.
Perhaps one of my greatest and most profound truths is that humor is absolutely imperative to happy and healthy relationships. I have been writing a humor column on family and relationships for four years (Daily Courier-Vernon and Castanet.net) and have yet to run out of funny anecdotes and stories that illustrate the profound humor in day-to-day affairs. To be able to laugh at life’s challenges (and the chaos that forever reigns in my home!) is tantamount to avoiding costly therapy. My spirit laughs from me and through me. My loved ones laugh with me and… at me?
Relationships. Yes, I have a few. In fact, I have many. And I’m not talking about primary, partner/lover relationships. (You can put the shotgun down, Mark!) I am a mom of twin eleven-year-old boys named Indigo and Eden and step-mom to two wonderful, teenaged children named Matt and Sam. I am a loving wife, a devoted friend, a committed confidante. I have a large and unique family. I have always looked upon "relationship" as an energy unto itself. There is you, there is me, and in the middle, there is our relationship. I call it, “the space between”. What we contribute to that space will uniquely characterize the experiences we will have together. To respect that space, is to create a mutual experience that is full of love and joy.
I welcome your feedback, questions, and comments. I acknowledge your uniqueness and am grateful to have this opportunity to have a relationship with you.
